A healthy airway leads to proper breathing, which lays the foundation for overall health and development, including breathing, sleep, focus, facial and dental growth.
Understanding the critical link between airway function and facial development, Airway Orthodontics treats issues like narrow airways or improper jaw alignment that can obstruct breathing, impact oral health, and negatively affect facial growth.
By guiding the growth of the jaw and teeth, airway orthodontics helps create optimal airway space for proper facial development, breathing, and sleep.
As your child grows, we regularly screen myofunctional and orthodontic needs. Our office provides interceptive orthodontics and space maintenance using state-of-the-art digital impressions and Myobrace™ appliances. We also have an in-house myofunctional therapist for ongoing therapeutic assistance.
For children 3-7 years old, early interceptive orthodontic treatment helps solve airway concerns to maximize the opportunity to accomplish the ideal healthy, functional, and aesthetic result that will remain stable throughout your child’s life.
The goal of Phase-One treatment is to help the jaw develop in a way that will accommodate all the permanent teeth and improve the way the upper and lower jaws fit together.
In this phase, the remaining permanent teeth are left alone as they erupt.
The goal of the second phase is to make sure each tooth has an exact location in the mouth where it is in harmony with the lips, cheeks, tongue, and other teeth. When this equilibrium is established, the teeth will function together properly. Phase two usually involves full upper and lower braces.
When the airway is open, it allows for maximum airflow, helping children to sleep deeper and more relaxed (without all the snoring, nightmares and bedwetting).
Better sleep often leads to better grades.
Quality sleep improves memory, executive function and problem-solving during childhood. Sleep deprivation directly impacts focus.
Quality sleep improves behavior during childhood.
Treatment promotes the natural growth of teeth into their correct alignments.
Treatment helps open the airway and shift the jaw forward while straightening teeth and guiding them into their correct alignments.
